Indian Media: Nepalis Looking Forward To One Belt And One Road Can Bring Rail Links

SINCHOLD Port Engineering Co.,Ltd | Updated: Aug 07, 2017

India kroll news website published on July 12, ramesh w. Hal's article "the Nepali people eager to" neighbourhood "all the way to bring the railway links", according to China's "area" initiative possibilities for the future development of Nepal.

According to the article, in 1927, when Britain was ruling India, it established Nepal's first railway station on its southeast border, in order to transport nepalese wood to India. After the lumber disappeared, the old track began manned for decades and eventually closed in 2014.In addition to Nepal's signing of the trans-asian rail network agreement in 2006, there was no real development since the British era. There are no operational rail services in Nepal. But big plans are afoot.

According to the article, the government's 20-year railway development plan aims to build 4,000km of railways, including a railway line linking the Tibetan plateau in northern China with the flood plains of ganga in India. But Nepal is a small landlocked country sandwiched between two huge economies.Railways are never a government priority.China's railway network, which runs through the winding terrain of Tibet, has been building up to xigaze, and has announced that it will extend the line to Nepal's border with China by 2020.

According to the article, locals on the northern border seem to have faith in China's railway repair to Nepal's borders, and nepalese officials also want the railway dream to come true."We focus too much on the highway in the past, but by railway connects mountains of northern and southern plains and is not an impossible task, we believe it will soon become a reality."Prakash upadaya, a spokesman for Nepal's railway ministry.

Construction on the northern border is imminent and the southern border railway is expected to run next year."We have been laying new rail tracks on the southern border, and our country is likely to have an effective rail service early next year.""Said upadiya confidently. These cross-border rail services will be linked to the Nepali plan to connect to the east rail link from gyron to Kathmandu.

The article said that north-south and One Belt And One Road were the hope of the Nepali people."We also heard in the media that China's 'One Belt And One Road' is quite ambitious," said a nepalese immigration official.

Geopolitics is the biggest constraint

"If Nepal is connected to China's rail network, it can also be linked to Europe by land," said Nepal's ambassador to China, Lila manny bodia, on twitter.China and Nepal signed a memorandum of understanding, which is a joyous occasion.

But implementing an agreement with the Chinese authorities is a difficult task, because Nepal must take into account its southern neighbour India.Relations between Nepal and India have been complicated since the new constitution was introduced in 2015.India reiterates its need to attach importance to the southern plains's opposition to issues such as citizenship.

In "One Belt And One Road", India tried to persuade Nepal not to join the initiative, the article said. However, Bangladesh and Nepal still agree to participate in the initiative.Nepal's technocrats have reason to think that India will eventually join the initiative."India's technocrats know the value of linking China's Tibet's jilong to India's rail network, because it is the most suitable route to connect to the trans-asian railway," said upataya.

According to the article, the trans-asian rail project from Asia to Europe involves three rail networks, with Nepal at the southern end.But it is also the main link between Shanghai and Moscow. The southern network connects Hong Kong and Singapore with Spain through India and Iran."We are strategically placed in a very important geographical position and can serve as a bridge between two major trans-asian rail networks," he added. He expressed hope that this meant that sooner or later India and China would link up the rail network.

Nepalese politicians are optimistic about north-south connectivity."Once established rail links with China, Nepal goods can through Eurasian transport network to the international market, if we want to overcome their own geopolitical factors, so it is very important. But all south Asian countries can benefit from this network."Rabindra adikari, chairman of Nepal's parliamentary development committee.
